Post-conversion – Xero

Post-conversion

We try to make your conversion as comprehensive as possible, aiming to save you as much time as we can. However, there are some things that we are not able to do because of limitations in the software process we use to enter data directly into the Xero accounting system.

This means that there will be some post-conversion tasks that you need to perform. This document provides an overview of these tasks. We recommend completing them as soon as possible after the conversion. If you encounter problems or think something might not be right, please refer to our troubleshooting page.

Any of the tasks below that are relevant should be completed. This will provide the best starting position for newly converted data.

  • Reconciling bank transactions
We’re not always able to convert the reconciled status of transactions. Performing this task will ensure the bank “Statement Balance” is correct following the conversion.
  • Check VAT/Tax codes in chart of accounts
Default tax rates associated with contacts or accounts won’t have been converted. These can be entered once the conversion has completed.
  • Filing VAT/Tax returns
We don’t convert VAT/tax returns and Xero won’t know which transactions have already been included in historic returns. Completing this helps Xero know which transactions need to be included in future returns.
  • Allocating payments to invoices or bills
There are times where we convert an invoice or bill and the payment but aren’t able to allocate them. This ensures paid invoices and bills don’t show as unpaid even if the payment has been converted.
  • Foreign currency (if foreign currency transactions or bank balances existed)
Foreign currency transactions will be converted as home currency. Foreign currency bank accounts and unpaid foreign currency invoices may need to be created to replace those we’ve converted to home currency.
  • FreeAgent Corporation Tax
If converting from FreeAgent, automatically generated corporation tax journals won’t have been converted. These steps show how to manually include them.
